As many of you know, there are some BIG changes underway with Shroud of the Avatar. After far too long, we are finally getting rid of our giant online cash shop and moving to the model that every other game uses. This is a LONG overdue change and definitely one that benefits the players and the Shroud team. Maintaining the existing cash shop was a full time job for several people. Managing everything in game versus a webstore is both easier for us and benefits the players with easier browsing, searching, instant delivery, and is generally a much simpler process for everyone. Also, in addition to removing the majority of the web store items, we’re also going to be changing up our semi-premium currency, Crowns or COTOs. Previously the rough target was 1 crown = $1. This was problematic because it did not give us the granularity needed for pricing smaller item and it got even more problematic when we wanted to put something on sale! Starting in Release 63, players will see that each of their crowns will be converted into 100 crowns. Store prices will follow that conversion for now and then over time will have their prices updated to more appropriate numbers. This means some items will go up and some will go down. With the increased resolution of crown we were also able to adjust our prices for crowns to more closely match what we wanted. Those prices will also go live with Release 63 in just over 2 weeks! The conversion rate is very slightly worse with most packages but now fall into what we believe will be a better set of numbers for the long term. As for store and crown sales, I think most people have seen we left our sales on this entire month. This is because after looking at what we sell things for, we had effectively targeted prices based on what they cost on sale. Going forward, we will be doing far fewer and much smaller sales BUT the normal price will be roughly the current sale price. For crown sales, we’ve also gotten people used to them always being on sale. Starting in R63 we’re going to start reducing that sale each release until we get to zero discount. We will still have sales but only briefly and only for special events. I repeat, we’re going to reduce and then kill off the reliance of store and crown sale pricing starting in just over 2 weeks, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Also, for those who haven’t seen the new planned crown bundle prices: $10.00 –> 750 $20.00 –> 1600 $35.00 –> 3200 $60.00 –> 6300 $100.00 –> 10750 Also, since I know some of you just read the top and bottom of the post, here is the tl;dr version: 98% of the cash shop going away We’re doing a 1 to 100 split for crowns to give us more pricing resolution for smaller items We’re doing away with huge sales and moving to a more steady but realistic price Crown store sales will be going away over the next few months starting with a reduction starting with R63 As always, thanks for your patience with this stuff and thanks for your support! Also, we have a number of exciting, upcoming announcements so keep your eyes on the forums over the next two weeks! 50% Items and 20% Crowns (Extended!) We have extended our 50% off weekend holiday sale! To celebrate our final release of our launch year we are putting most items* in the store on sale for 50% off, our deepest discounts ever! We are also going to track the R61 Dark Winter Stretch Goals all weekend (versus just the traditional Friday noon to midnight)! We also have extended our Holiday Crowns Sale! Some packages are discounted as much as 20%! Note that the Crowns sale will be slowly going away over the next few releases! Automatic Redemption of Rewards Release 63 As part of our continuing improvements to Quality of Life in Shroud of the Avatar we are going to remove the extra step required when receiving purchased items inside the game. You will no longer have to click on a “Redeem Rewards” button. Instead we will automatically send the items to your rewards interface when you next login to the game. If you are currently logged in then they will appear as soon as the purchase transaction completes. We are also going to provide an onscreen notice for when rewards are delivered to your Rewards Interface. 6. Sometimes the simplest answers aren't the best. I think we're seeing this is very true with several decisions we made long ago for how POTs work. We went with the obvious design of POTs having a total squarefootage that could be placed and houses take up exactly as many square feet as they take up. While this seems fine on the surface, the reality is that it makes POT owners choose between having 1 guy in an awesome castle or 32 friends in Row lots. This puts a huge burden on POT owners... Lord Forged Items now Duke Dungeon Throne Room & Duke Heraldry Paver not actual room [Forum post by Starr “Darkstarr” Long] Greetings Avatars, In June of 2018 we posted an update concerning the Duke+ level pledge reward of a Custom Avatar Head. At that time we explained our reasons why this original reward was not going to be possible as well as the reward we were going to replace it with known as the “Lord Forged Items”. Since that time we have received a large amount of feedback about that replacement reward which has caused us to pause on delivery of those rewards and consider other possibilities. To that end we have now decided to not deliver the Lord Forged Items because those visuals would not be unique nor would they offer anything unique for each Duke supporter. Instead we are going to provide each eligible backer a new Duke Dungeon Throne Room. In addition Dukes will receive a unique Duke Heraldry Paver they can place on the floor of this Throne Room where they can truly customize the space with their heraldry. Thank you again for your patience while we have worked to find a solution that is within our means. Please accept our sincerest apologies for not being able to deliver the original reward as promised. We shared a lot of information yesterday in our short live stream and it was both exciting enough and potentially confusing enough that it deserved a post in writing that people could read and absorb. Our history is pretty well known and our “cash shop” has been with us since the start. For years it has been a burden in terms of public opinion, usability, and time consuming maintenance. When we compare ourselves to other live online role play games with a similar money model, we find that we are almost the only game in the entire crowded market that has a vast cash shop on a website and then almost nothing available in game for purchase. We also added premium currency long ago but never really made full use of it in game. Time for that all to change! Within the next 2 releases we will move to a store model similar to 95% of the other games in the field. Our website will primarily only sell Crowns and rewards programs and possibly 1 single item for episode 2 access. There will probably be another small section that will be hidden for stuff like POTs and support. All the items in the store will be available through the Crown Shop interface. From what we’ve been seeing, most players don’t even know this exists but if you look at the interface buttons in the upper right hand corner of the game, the second one in from the right is a Crown Shop. Click this and you can access a few dozen items from the game anywhere, without needing to talk to a merchant. When we mentioned this during the stream I saw a few people scream, “No! The interface is slow and doesn’t show the items or have information!” They are right and that is why our biggest task with this switch is moving to a whole new interface! We’re currently working on pulling all the information for items on the web store into the interface. Items will all include a detailed description, most will include a screenshot, and those that don’t will show the actual model for the item when selected. Also, currently the in game crown shop is SLOW to load even with a small number of items. We are fixing this to prebake this data instead of loading it all from thousands of item definition and data files. This slowness was actually the reason we stopped adding items to the in game store for a while but a fix is almost ready to go live. In addition to matching the features of the web store, by moving it in game we can improve it in a number of other ways as well. The web store has no good system for localization which means it is only available in English. The new crown store in game will be localizable just like any other in game text! In game you will be able to filter and search and sort items. We will have items tagged for different categories so instead of clicking through pages and pages of goods and scrolling you can just click “Weapons” and “Elven” and it will show you just the items tagged with those! If you’re shopping for new lights for your house, just choose “decorations” and “lights”. We are also hoping to have other data in them so you can do things like show “Recently added” items or just “Sale” items. To make sure existing players are aware of the in game crown store and go try it out, I’ll be adding a number of small “blessings” to the game. You’ll get one at random with any crown store purchase. I have about 25 different small blessings designed and it will apply one at random. These will last a day and will basically be shorter, possibly weaker versions of existing in game blessings or obsidian potions. We’ll probably keep these around until a release after the store work is finished to make sure people go and find the crown store in game since even the seasoned adventurers I talked to didn’t know it existed! I hope to have these live in a patch next week. Have you ever noticed that sometimes our sales stay up longer than promised. Well some of that is due to us wanting to be nice to players outside the US who have time zone issues to deal with but the main reason is because currently it is complicated to turn on/off sales and only a few people can do it. The new in game system will be broken down to allow anyone on the team to turn it on or off and we’ll also be able to schedule sales to start and end. So as for sales and pricing. This is another area where we’ve looked around and identified that we’re a bit off base on many prices. Part of this is due to us knowing we were doing big, week end sales and so we priced stuff higher than we should have. With this major transition coming up we’ll be adjusting many item prices down to somewhere in between the current price and the sale price. Once the new store goes live we will have far fewer sales and they will be much smaller percentages off. Most items in the new store will be cheaper than the current full price store BUT when on sale, they’ll roughly the same or slightly higher than the current prices. There will be some exceptions to that rule but that is our general target. Going forward we’ll probably also do fewer or no “Everything is on sale!” type sales. This is largely done this way now because of the less than stellar system we use now to put stuff on sale. So again, repeating again for clarity. New store prices will be adjusted. In general, new store prices will be lower than current full price store but slightly higher than current sale prices. Another big thing that we will be fixing during this time is our actual premium currency! While the $1 = 1 Crown thing is easy to understand, it does not give us the resolution we need to price things correctly. For instance, to match the cash shop, we would have to do things in full $1/1COTO increments. The resolution also means we have to make drops of them very rare. When this change goes live, after the maintenance down time concludes, you will log in to find that all of your crowns turned into 100 crowns. This will happen in your inventory, bank, and even on decos. The decos will look like a single crown but when picked up, they will turn into 100. For Vendors, we aren’t sure which option we’ll use but we’ll either adjust your numbers on your vendor or, more likely, we’ll cancel out all your crown sales/purchase orders. In game, you will still see crowns drop but at 100x the rate of the current ones. This also lets us do things like sell dyes individually if we choose. Previously we would bundle all the cheap items together in large packs because we couldn’t do sales smaller than $1. We’ll also be taking advantage of the new greater crown resolution to adjust our prices. While we knew what our targets numbers were before, we couldn’t actually get there because of rounding error involved with the low crown prices. Price = Count $10.00 = 750 $20.00 = 1600 $35.00 = 3200 $60.00 = 6300 $100.00 = 10750 Also, going forward do not expect to see many if any crown sales. We plan on moving crowns back to being the stable bedrock of our pricing structure and keeping the sales primarily in game. If do any crown sales it will only be for major events like Lord British’s birthday or the release of some major new content and will only be a small discount. Also, we’ll likely make some small adjustments to the rewards program to make sure it stays the best exchange rate for buying crowns. I’ve had a few people point out that due to the crown sales, currently it is promised to be the best rate but you can actually get slightly better with a large crown purchase on sale. You still miss out on all the extra stuff so we still consider it a great deal but we’ll be fixing this going forward to live up to its crown promise. One more exciting thing coming soon is the ability to upgrade deeds in game for crowns. The current plan is that you will be able to right click on a deed and get a menu showing you the cost to upgrade it. We plan on making it so you can upgrade for the price difference in the crown store. No trade deeds from the story-line will likely be upgradeable but remain no trade but we’re still evaluating that option. Also, in case you missed the stream, the other exciting thing coming is the ability to purchase a permit for row house demolition. There will be a cheap option to turn a row lot into a an empty lot with no houses on it that can be used for whatever. We see this as a huge win for players who have their main lot but also have a row lot or two in storage from the storyline. 14. As many of you know, we have been woefully understaffed in our CS department. As of 2 weeks ago we went from understaffed to UN-staffed as our only CS person suffered a major back injury and is on mandatory bed rest for weeks. This has resulted in several weeks of support tickets backing up. Finally some good news, we have a new CS person who will be starting tomorrow. Please be patient with them as they learn the ropes over the next few weeks but hopefully they will get the log jam... Customer Support and Shipping updates View the full article

Greetings Avatars! I am pleased to announce that we will now be allowing POT upgrades with Crowns! The cost in crowns is the same as for cash. So if you’re town was going to cost $800 to upgrade, you can upgrade it for 800 crowns. After investigating a number of options for how best to do this, we decided the simplest implementation was the best since this will be used by a fairly small audience. To upgrade, simply send an in game mail to Atos in game with a note for the town name you wish... POT upgrades for in game Crowns! View the full article

Lord of the Isle Episode 2 Bundles As one of the biggest and earliest supporters of Episode 2 you will be granted the largest lot deed in the land (Castle), the title Lord (or Lady) of the Isle, a tour of the Portalarium Offices, and dinner with the game leaders including Lord British himself! Now you’ll be able to put down a row lot to turn it into a play space, crafting area, or a dedicated garden. Wow, that ended up being a crazy long post! Lots of stuff to talk about. For those with short attention spans who just skip to the end, here is the tl;dr version: Current crown target of $1 = 1 COTO will turn into $1 = 100 COTO All your existing crowns will turn into 100 crowns Many prices will adjust downwards to be between current and sale price Sales will be smaller and fewer and for the most part Thanks and you can look forward to these changes in the near future! 50% Items and 20% Crowns (Extended!) Server relocation successful!

Greetings Avatars! Unless you had been paying attention to updates you might have missed that we accomplished a major feat during the R62 release. In a 2 1/2 hour downtime, we moved our entire server cluster from one data center to another! Didn't notice it had been moved? Well, that is exactly as planned! While we continue to verify that the new data center has a rock solid connection and we're not seeing lost packets like we were at the previous location, we are seeing some momentary... R62 Patch Window

Greetings Avatars! Due to us combining our server migration with our patch window for this release, we will be starting at 8AM instead of the usual 9AM. There is also a small chance that we will over run our usual time window and need to post pone the start of R62 but we do not expect this to happen. For those who were unaware, this release we are not only releasing a new version of the game but we are also migrating the live service to a new data center! For those who were experience... SOTA NewsRelease 62 Instructions

[From a forum post by Starr “Darkstarr” Long] Avatars, Please read this entire message, as well as the linked Player Guide and Known Issues. Release 62 of Shroud of the Avatar goes live this Thursday, January 31, at 10:30 AM US Central Time (15:30 UTC). Release 62 is the first release in which we focused on the current iteration of our Top 10 Priorities (from Q1 2019 post). We made progress on almost every single priority including Quality of Life (Reduced Lot Deed Taxes), Improved Reward Cycle (Row Lot Deed for completing Outskirts, Village Lot and House Deeds for Story Completion), User Interface Polish (In-Game Store Improvements), Seasonal Content (Valentine’s Items), Systems Polish (Back Slot Item Enchanting/Masterworking, Mask Patterns, Pet Balance), bug fixes, more Player-Made Dungeon pieces, and hundreds of Collectors’ Boxes were shipped before the holiday break. Lot Deed Quest Rewards: One of the strongest features in Shroud of the Avataris our Player Housing system. Previously, we rewarded players with a Player Owned Town Row Lot Deed for completing the entire story, approximately 40 hours of gameplay (less if you watch YouTube!). After collecting lots of feedback and data from our players we have decided to move that reward to much earlier in the game experience. Now players will receive a Player Owned Town Row Lot Deed for finishing any of the Outskirts quest lines! We have also upgraded the story completion reward to a Player Owned Town Village Lot Deed and a Shingle-Roof (Village Home) house deed. Back Slot Items Patterns, Enchanting & Masterworking: Previously, the only back slot item that had any stats associated with it was the Shroud of the Avatar item. Now all back slot items can be Masterworked and Enchanted. They also now use the Patterns system. There are four basic types of back slot items: Backpacks (Strength & Carry Capacity), Cloaks (Defense & Attack Speed), Wings (Dexterity & Move Rate) and Quivers (Dexterity & Ammo Recovery). Quality of Life Improvements: We have lowered property taxes for all Lot Deeds larger than Row (which were already lowered in a previous release), especially the largest lot deeds, to reduce the burden of property ownership. We also increased the prepayment time of taxes, made it so lot deeds can be upgraded with Crowns, lowered some lot deed prices and made various improvements to the in-game store. Bug Fixing: We dedicated a significant portion of the release to working solely on fixing bugs and reducing our overall bug count. We addressed over 100 issues with 95 of them highlighted in the google spreadsheet, including fixes to various scenes (typos, stuck spots, etc.), crafting fixes, combat fixes, and various user interface fixes. NOTE: We have purposely not shown issues related to exploits, security, and customer service issues. I want to express a huge amount of gratitude to the players who tested the items listed below on our QA server. They found many bugs and also provided editorial feedback on this post so that it is easy to read and actually matches what is in the game. Before offering feedback and/or reporting a bug, we kindly ask that you read this whole message and the linked Player Guide and Known Issues to get up to date on the current game state. To keep up to date, please check out the Patch Notes. By taking a few moments to read through this information, a great deal of our time and effort can be focused on new “unanswered” questions and addressing critical issues that impact each release. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to review this post and for all the truly valuable feedback you continue to provide. Also, remember that while we are providing new content with each release, our community is also working overtime to make new events for you to enjoy. Be sure to check the schedule for player-run events (via the player-run websites: NBNN Community Calendar& Avatars Circle). You can also get the latest official events on the Main Website. Without further ado, here is a list of what you can expect to see in Release 62. Key: Plain Text:The original plan for the Release deliverables from the Q4 2018 Schedule Update. We intentionally preserve the original text so that our backers can compare plan versus actuals. Italics: Detailed notes of what was actually delivered. Strikethrough:These are items that did not make the release (but are still planned). RELEASE 62, January 31, 2019 Performance:Performance work will mainly focus on improving frame rate and reducing hitching during gameplay. Work will also continue to be done on load time reduction on the few outstanding scenes that are not meeting our 15-second load time target. Streaming Textures: Work started on enabling streaming textures. This will improve load times and memory footprint in scenes with a high number of objects with unique textures, like towns with high deco counts. This work will be ongoing Bug Fixes: Two issues were fixed that were causing significant extra overhead with any area effect abilities in towns. This was most visible in towns where PVP was occurring. Unity Versions:Progress was made towards moving to the latest version of Unity (2018.3) but too many stability problems have come up in the latest version. We will likely do release 62 on the current version of Unity, 2018.2, which also has stability problems, but far fewer than the latest release. Bug Fixing: Time will be allocated to a general sweep through all systems, features, and content to reduce overall bug counts. Bug Fixing: We dedicated a significant portion of the release to working solely on fixing bugs and reducing our overall bug count. We addressed over 100 issues with 95 of them highlighted in the google spreadsheet, including fixes to various scenes (typos, stuck spots, etc.), quests, crafting fixes, combat fixes, and various user interface fixes. NOTE: We have purposely not shown issues related to exploits, security, and customer service issues. Combat: After a millennium of being unable to produce offspring dragons are finally reproducing! Baby Dragons have been sighted in various remote locations across Novia. Don’t be fooled by their size though! They are still dangerous beasts, even when young! We will also do some balance work on pet balance including summons and tamed creatures. Young Dragons: We have updated the name to be Young (vs. Baby) Dragons. Northwest Blackblade Mountains might have Young Yellow Dragons; Grunvald Shardfall might have a Green, Blue, or Orange; Novia Plains Encounters might have a Red or Blue; Hidden Vale Plains Encounters might have a Purple or Blue. NOTE: These cannot be tamed in the current release but will be in future releases. Summoned Pet Balance: A pass was made to improve the summoned pets from the magic schools. Changes will vary from pet to pet but generally include increased health and strength. For casters that specialized in a school with a summon, they will find their pets have additional bonuses that vary by type. NOTE: Balance for tamed creatures was delayed by server relocation work and will come in a future release. Dexterity Updates: As part of our ongoing balance work, dexterity has received a number or extra bonuses. The critical hit chance for ranged weapons with dexterity has been increased slightly. Additionally, most light armor skills have received bonuses based on dexterity. Crafting & Economy: Back slot items (cloaks, wings, backpacks, etc.) will now be able to have stats, enchantments, and masterworks associated with them. Back Slot Items Patterns, Enchanting & Masterworking: Previously the only back slot item that had any stats associated with it was the Shroud of the Avatar item. In the process of creating this feature we added Eternal Patterns for 115 pre-existing items, including: 97 Cloaks 12 Wings 3 Backpacks 2 Quivers Masks as Patterns for Helms: After numerous requests by players, we have updated our masks so that they can be used as patterns for helms. We have added Eternal Patterns to 61 masks (27 cloth, 34 leather). We have also created Pattern Packs for the masks in the Add On Store (Dragon, Wolf, Goggles, etc.). Player Towns & Player Housing:Updates to Dynamic Player-Owned Towns (POTs) that have locked submission forms will appear in the game. Lot Deed Quest Rewards: One of the strongest features in Shroud of the Avatar is our Player Housing system. We have also upgraded the story completion reward to a Player Owned Town Village Lot Deed and Shingle Roof Village Home house deed. If you have already completed any one of the Outskirts storylines and don’t already have the row lot deed reward, just return to the main contacts (Kinsey, Burnes, Alberic, or Phineas Drumplemouth) and use the “deed” keyword to receive this reward. If you have completed the main storyline, simply go to any Confirmatory and talk to the Oracle. She’ll give you the village lot and house deeds just for saying “hello” to her. You can only obtain these deed quest rewards once per account. The quests are not repeatable. Lot Deed Taxes Lowered: We have lowered property taxes for all Lot Deeds larger than Row (which were already lowered in a previous release), especially the largest lot deeds, to reduce the burden of property ownership. Price changes listed below (gold per day). NOTE: This was actually patched into Release 61. Village: 1000 now 500 Town: 2000 now 1000 City: 3500 now 2000 Keep: 14000 now 3000 Castle: 28000 now 4000 Tax Prepayment Time Increased: We have increased the days you can prepay from 90 days to 180 days. Upgrading Lot Deeds with Crowns: Lot Deeds can now be upgraded with Crowns by right-clicking on a deed and choosing to “Upgrade item…” Note this only allows upgrading of lot size within a deed type, not conversion of one lot deed type to another (i.e. you cannot use this function to convert a taxed lot deed to tax free). Natural Caverns Player Dungeon Rooms and Hallways: This newest set of Player Dungeon Rooms and Hallways are cavern themed and feature a room with a fishing spot. You can purchase these items from the decoration crown merchant or from the Add-On Store. POT Deco and Light Limit Increases: We increased decoration and light limits for Player-Owned Towns, by roughly one tier. So, for example, a holdfast now has the deco and light limits of a hamlet. See the linked google docfor updated numbers. NOTE: This was actually patched into Release 61. Player Portrait Paintings: We added seven new player portraits that players had commissioned from various artists to the art crown merchant. NOTE: This was actually patched into Release 61. Duke Dungeon Throne Room: Duke level pledges and above will receive the unique Duke Dungeon Throne Room with plenty of space for the accompanying unique Duke Heraldry Pavers. Duke Heraldry Pavers: Duke level pledges and above will receive a set of unique Duke Heraldry Pavers that can be placed anywhere, including the new unique Duke Dungeon Throne Room. Ornate Fish Throne: This ornate variation of the Fish Throne can be purchased in the Add On Store and Crown Store. Dragon Helm Dragon Bow Release 59 Stretch Goal Items: We have completed all the Fish themed Release 59 Stretch Goals! Fish Mask Set (Bass, Trout, Tuna) Fish Pavers Fish Throne Big Trophy Fish Statue Set Release 60 Stretch Goal Items: We have completed one of the Cornucopia themed Release 60 Stretch Goal items and hope to address the rest in Release 63. Myra in Owl’s Head:Myra’s quest to free her brother from the Clink has received a few improvements in her conversation, journal entries, and compass markers. Also, taking on Myra’s task unlocks another quest opportunity in Owl’s Head! Colman in Owl’s Head:If Myra vouches for you, then that’s good enough for young Colman! In this new quest, Colman needs you to get an important message to his father in the Clink. Oh, and if you lose Myra’s key, Colman may be just the boy to get you a replacement…. The Clink: Both guards and prisoners in this beloved scene have had some conversation updates. Quality of Life Improvements & User Interface Polish: New In-Game Store: The new store is always available via the HUD, and replaces the previous store interface. This store interface includes many more items, as well as screenshots and descriptions for each item. Note that prices in the new store may be different than prices in the Add-On Store on our website (ShroudOfTheAvatar.com). The new store is still in development, so its prices are not yet affected/reduced by sales advertised on our website. Lord of the Isle: Episode 2 Bundles: As one of the biggest and earliest supporters of Episode 2 you will be granted the largest lot deed in the land (Castle), the title Lord (or Lady) of the Isle, a tour of the Portalarium Offices, and dinner with the game leaders including Lord British himself! Only 24 of these unique bundles will be sold! Thank you so much for reading all the way here to the end! We are only getting warmed up with this first release of 2019, which will be an amazing year for Shroud of the Avatarplayers! Player Data Server Downtime

Greetings Avatars! As many of you know, we are moving to a new set of servers later this week. This will fix the connection problems that many players have seen over the past 6 weeks and give us a stable, secure, and long term home for the game. This server swap will occur Thursday during our normal game downtime. Currently the QA server is running on the boxes. One problem we didn't have an easy solution to is the public data server. When the game goes live on the new servers on... Player Data Server Downtime View the full article
